Sundance out, Superfly in: Great record store news!

Sundance Records closed in April after 35 years in business.

One 70s reference gives way to another: Sundance Kid meet Superfly!

When Sundance Record Store in San Marcos closed recently after 35 years in business, it was sad news. But word came today that the 3,000-square foot space at 202 University Drive will be taken over by Superfly’s Lone Star Music Emporium, a new record store specializing in Texas artists. Superfly’s is owned by the folks that put out Lone Star Music magazine.

The new shop expects to be open by the end of September. Lone Star Music’s shop in Gruene will close tomorrow, so the owners can focus on San Marcos.

The Trishas grace the cover of the latest issue of Lone Star Music.

The store, located a few blocks from Texas State University, will have a stage for in-store performances.

In a news release Thursday, Superfly’s operators said they’ll stock all kinds of music, from Houston hip-hop to heavy metal, with a huge vinyl selection.

  1. Michael,

Here’s what happened to Sundance – it’s now at Sig’s Lagoon in Houston. Former Sundance employee Tomas Escalante, who owns Sig’s, bought out Bobby’s furnishings and Bobby is reinstalling it all, poster collages on the walls included, at Sig’s.
So if you miss Sundance, it’s in Houston now.
