The Yellow Dogs performed at a party during SXSW in March. Drummer Arash Farazmand, guitarist Soroush Farazmand were killed Monday by another Iranian musician. Also killed was singer-songwriter Ali Eskandarian, who was said to not be a member of the Yellow Dogs, but that appears him to be singing in this photo.
The Yellow Dogs posed for a photo with their Austin host, painter Eileen Pestorius. The two brothers to the right of Pestorius- Arash and Soroush Farazmand were murdered Monday. The man in all black at the far right appears to be singer-songwriter Ali Eskandarian, who was also shot to death Monday by a former member of the Yellow Dogs “sister band” the Free Keys. News reports have said Eskandarian was not a member of the Yellow Dogs, but he sang with the band at the Dart Music International showcase held earlier in the day in the backyard of Mark McKrimmon’s law office at Ninth Street and Rio Grande.
Eileen Pestorius (the mother of Okkervil River bassist Patrick Pestorius): “I think Ici and Sot (Iranian street artists) were the 2 on my left in green and plaid green shirts…They were a bit more shy than the other boys, but when I learned of their daring escapades with spray paint, I really admired their courage. They were swift, acting and then gone in a flash before they could be arrested.” Sasan “Sot” Sadeghpourosko, 22, was also shot in the attack, but his injuries were not life-threatening.
